Thursday Thirteen #6, in Chocolate Mice
1. The first chocolate mouse said, “Christmas is about peace, love and tolerance.”
2. “And presents,” said the second chocolate mouse.
3. “It isn’t about presents,” sniffed the third chocolate mouse, disdainfully. “That’s greedy.”
4. “Don’t call him greedy,” reprimanded chocolate mouse number four. “Christmas isn’t about judging.”
5. “Or name calling,” added the fifth chocolate mouse.
6. “Or walnuts,” said number six, helpfully.
7. “I like walnuts,” seven said, a little defensively.
8. “Walnuts are nice with chocolate,” speculated eight.
9. “Better not go there,” cautioned the ninth chocolate mouse, shifting uncomfortably, the light shining delectably off of his tasty chocolate bum.
10. Cherry-stem tail twitching nervously in the awkward silence, the tenth chocolate mouse changed the subject. “I like cheese.”
7. “I like walnuts,” mumbled number seven to himself, because he didn’t like to lose an argument.
11. “Cheese is nice,” allowed number eleven, ignoring seven. “It goes nicely with crackers.”
12. “And love,” sighed a giddy number twelve, whose left almond ear was bigger than her right, only adding to her charm.
13. “Which goes with Christmas,” finished the thirteenth chocolate mouse with satisfaction, just before he was eaten.
He was very yummy.

misty, they’re super easy, which is why we threw out the sugar cookie decorating tradition ages ago in favor of it, and I’m willing to turn the dining room into a factory for them once a year.
