The Archive Meme
Way back at the dawn of time (which isn’t a crack about our ages but about my tardiness) zenmomma tagged me for the Archive Meme because she knows how much I love to feel included. It’s great timing, too – for me January seems to be spent almost entirely on projects meant to be a last inventory of the year before and in preparation for the year to come. In fact, I think I’d really like it best if January just didn’t count at all. It could be sort of an in between place where a person can catch her breath. Maybe I’ll start a petition. Until then, let’s review:
My favorite post about family:
I’m going to choose The Power of Words, which is all about how important the link has been between using colorful swear words in the right way at the right time and my delightful family life.
My favorite post about friends:
I really wanted to go with something gooey like Sharing a piece of home which was a sweet bit about my best-friend and her family right after they had a baby, but I think I’m just slightly more partial to Four is a lot or the Politics of Peanut Butter, which is about her son coming to stay with us for a few days.
My favorite post about me:
This is tricky because as you know, it’s all about me. But I chose Help! I’m Trapped in a Room Filled with Cheerleaders and my Cell Phone Battery is Dead which is ostensibly about my daughter, but much more revealing, I think, about myself. For a companion piece, see Cheerleaders are Yummy.
My favorite post about something I love:
Against my better judgment I’m going to go with How I Spent My Summer Vacation, part 2 which is one of 4 pieces that I wrote about a family vacation we took to San Francisco and Disneyland two years ago. It is a prohibitively long piece that none of you will read, but I think it had some good parts like the stuff about stupid tourists and the part about the Paul Bettany look-alike, and reading Alan Ginsberg’s Howl for the first time while sitting inside City Lights bookstore.
A favorite post of my choice:
I was reasonably proud of My Trip to the Dentist (and really more than gratified to discover that I’m not the only one that neurotic) but since I’m trying to stick to the older entries for this meme, I’ll go with Who Breaks a Butterfly on a Wheel about a traumatic experience we had on a road trip. Or maybe On the nightstand if you’re in a hurry and want to read something slightly inappropriate.
Now is the part where I have to tag. Eenie meenie miney moe. Oh no – I’m having flashbacks to gym class, where about the only thing worse than being the last picked it being the one to pick. I don’t function well under this kind of pressure, so quickly:
- Sandy at Momisodes because she’s doing that crazy Blog365 thing.
- Mike at Daily? Musings because I’m curious to see if he’s written anything but vocabulary critiques. (Mike, meet Mary. Oh, that’s right, you know each other. That is literally terrific. And yes, I do crack myself up.)
- Lisa at mama milton because it gives me a chance to tell the world how cool she is.
- Kim from Our Heart Centered Life who is also cool. Cool like zombies and Damien Rice.
- Laura from Wistful Wanderlust, who is kind of my betrothed, provided we can work out the little details like Starbucks and, you know, our husbands.
You’re all invited to play, but you don’t have to if it doesn’t appeal. And if anyone reads this that I didn’t mention and would also like to play, I’m inviting you as well. Yes, you. In fact, you were really my first pick all along. There are no last picks for dodge ball here.
Archive Meme Instructions: Go back through your archives and post the links to your five favorite blog posts that you’ve written. … but there is a catch: Link 1 must be about family. Link 2 must be about friends. Link 3 must be about yourself, who you are… what you’re all about. Link 4 must be about something you love. Link 5 can be anything you choose. I think this is a great way to circulate some of the great older posts everyone had written, return to a few great places in our memories and also learn a little something about ourselves and each other that we may not know. Post your five links and then tag five other people. At least TWO of the people you tag must be newer acquaintences so that you get to know each other better….and don’t forget to read the archive posts and leave comments!

I look forward to reading these. I always am curious what other bloggers consider their best work. Right now, I have three posts that I’m hugely fond of. All the more reason to keep writing, huh? I truly appreciate your sense of humor and your hamster’s wisdom.

Kelly, Help!
I want to play…but, I don’t know how to “link” my archive choices into my new post.
I am so green behind the ears…Are there Blog Schools for 46 Year Olds out here?
My 14 year old, Wesleigh, doesn’t “blog”…but I suppose I can suck up any semblance of pride and ask him anyway–that is if he’ll take my instant message from one end of the house to the other!
Having so much to learn,
kim

*pant pant pant* – Ok, I read them. Ok, I did stop during the vacation one when I realized there were about 5 more mouse-scrolls to go – sorry. But now I really know why we’re sooo compatible! Ok, first, you make me laugh – and that’s critical to any good relationship, me thinks. But the rest I learned in your ‘Power of Words’ post – we had many similar experiences! My dad built me a Xmas gift in the basement and I learned lots of choice words from that experience; you can say “You’re a little asshole” in German and I can call you a raisin-head in Japanese; and we both waitressed at Pizza Hut!
But, um, there may be a small deal-breaker… I was a cheerleader. (ducking) But I was a cool one, I swear! Not prissy! I shaved my head and didn’t shave my legs! (Hey, it was a small school – the cheerleaders were the jocks were the nerds were the smart kids were the druggies.)
Do you think that’s something you can see beyond? It was a long time ago…
Thx for sharing your posts – many were from before I’d found you! I may actually do this meme too, for a chg.

Yay! A meme I haven’t heard of yet; I’m in. When exactly, I don’t know, but it will be coming to a blog near you…
{Thanks for the sweet compliment. You’re too kind.}

piscesgrrl – I guess I’ll have to overlook your sordid past with cheerleading, seeing as how you did try to read the vacation post. But now we will never speak of such things again.

Wonderful! Thank you for reminding me to re-read ALL of my posts. I wasted an entire day. It was fun. Although I have discovered that I repeat myself a lot. And thank you for re-sharing these posts. I would have to say my favorite was the Butterfly Massacre. Or maybe the nightstand one. Sleep with one eye open ok? Just to be sure.
